De m\u00eame, je crois que l&rsquo;on ne peut pr\u00e9sumer la comp\u00e9tence d&rsquo;une personne qu&rsquo;\u00e0 partir du moment o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de se mettre au travail pour donner \u00e0 la personne les moyens de nous montrer qu&rsquo;elle est comp\u00e9tente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le Dr John P. Hussman demande aux lecteurs de son guide \u00ab\u00a0Successful, evidence-based principles for supporting and engaging individuals with autism\u00a0\u00bb de se pr\u00eater un petit exercice : les lecteurs doivent r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la question \u00ab\u00a0quelle est votre couleur pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb sans utiliser le langage ou bouger. Les lecteurs gardent en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral le silence. Il est \u00e9vident pour nous que ce n&rsquo;est pas parce qu&rsquo;ils ne savent pas r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question en respectant les conditions impos\u00e9es qu&rsquo;ils ne la comprennent pas. Et pourtant, ils ne donnent \u00e0 voir aucune compr\u00e9hension de la question. Dr Husmann affirme que nous devons pr\u00e9sumer la comp\u00e9tence des personnes autistes de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on. Ce n&rsquo;est pas parce que la personne autiste ne nous donne pas \u00e0 voir qu&rsquo;elle pense, apprend et comprend que nous devons penser qu&rsquo;elle ne pense pas, n&rsquo;apprend pas et ne comprend pas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Husman reprend ensuite l&rsquo;id\u00e9e d&rsquo;Anne Donnellan connue sous les termes \u00ab\u00a0l&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se la moins dangereuse\u00a0\u00bb. Il la reformule de la fa\u00e7on suivante : en l&rsquo;absence d&rsquo;\u00e9vidence que la personne autiste pense, apprend et comprend, quelle est l&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se la moins pr\u00e9judiciable pour elle ? Pr\u00e9sumer la comp\u00e9tence ou pr\u00e9sumer l&rsquo;incomp\u00e9tence ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il aborde ensuite les cons\u00e9quences d&rsquo;une pr\u00e9somption erron\u00e9e de comp\u00e9tence, d&rsquo;une part et d&rsquo;une pr\u00e9somption erron\u00e9e d&rsquo;incomp\u00e9tence d&rsquo;autre part. La pr\u00e9somption erron\u00e9e de comp\u00e9tence aurait pour seule cons\u00e9quence une perte de temps et un retour \u00e0 des propositions plus simples tandis que de la pr\u00e9somption erron\u00e9e d&rsquo;incomp\u00e9tence r\u00e9sulterait de la frustration de la part de la personne autiste, des attentes r\u00e9duites vis \u00e0 vis d&rsquo;elle qui auront un impact sur son avenir en termes d&rsquo;apprentissage, de communication et de participation sociale. De plus, il sera extr\u00eamement difficile, voire impossible de rattraper le temps et les opportunit\u00e9s perdus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diff\u00e9rents conseils pratiques sont ensuite donn\u00e9s.
